Kidnapped 1-year-old boy rescued in 24 hours
Unable to bear separation from his friend's wife, a 22-year-old man kidnapped her one-year-old child from Anand Parbat in central Delhi, police said.
The accused, Data Ram, who hails from Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested within 24 hours from Kanpur Railway Station on Thursday, said Additional Commissioner of Police Devesh Chandra Srivastva.
He was held after the kidnapped boy's mother, a resident of Punjabi Basti in central Delhi, had approached police.
She told police that Data Ram, who is residing in her neighbourhood and is her husband Ashok's friend, called and told her that he had kidnapped her child and wanted to meet her near Shiv Mandir in Patel Nagar.
“When the complainant called up Data Ram, he asked her to meet in Lucknow and then calling her up again, asked her to reach Kanpur,” said Srivastva.
With the help of technical surveillance of his mobile phone, the accused was tracked down and taken into custody. “The kidnapped child was safely rescued,” said Srivastva.
Data Ram, a labour in a napkin factory in Anand Parbat Industrial Area, told police that he along with his friend, the child's father — Ashok, was living in a rented house in Punjabi Basti in Anand Parbat since 2008. Meanwhile, his friend got married with a woman and they all were living in the same house.
“In 2009, Data Ram had provided financial help to Ashok's wife while she was undergoing treatment for spinal tuberculosis. After some time, Ashok and his wife shifted out of the house and Data Ram started living in a separate room in the neighbourhood,” said Srivastva.
Apparently, this did not go down well with him as he was in love with her. He started pressurising her to get a divorce from Ashok and also asked her to pay back his money.
When Ashok’s wife snubbed Data Ram's advances, he kidnapped the child and demanded Rs 1 lakh which he had spent on her treatment.
