BJP to launch campaign to 'expose' Cong on Lokpal fiasco

New Delhi, Jan 1 (PTI)

Alleging that the Congress did not want the Lokpal Bill to be passed in the Rajya Sabha, the BJP today said it will launch a week-long campaign across the country to "expose" the ruling party.

"There was no conviction by the UPA in Rajya Sabha for passing a strong Lokpal Bill and that is why people are disappointed. BJP will launch the 'Loktantra bachao, Congress hatao' (save democracy remove congress) campaign at district level from January 3-10," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters here.

She said the party will "tell the truth" to the people about how the Bill was mocked and and not passed. "If Congress had the will to pass Lokpal, it would have talked to the Trinamool Congress, BJP and other parties. But Congress does not have the conviction," the spokesperson said.

A high-level BJP delegation will also call on the President on January 3 to register its protest against the Lokpal Bill fiasco in Parliament. On Friday, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad had said that "silent protest marches by BJP members wearing black bands will be held" on the Lokpal Bill issue.

With the battle in Parliament on Lokpal issue now put to rest till the budget session, the BJP has decided to take to the streets on the issue. The contentious issue is likely to figure in a big way during the forthcoming polls in five states, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
