Roads in CB Pur turn into slush ponds
Citizens blame it on lack of maintenance, substandard repair work
Roads near Channaiah Park and surrounding areas in Chikkaballapur are in a primitive state.
With water filled to the brim, a big crater on the BB Road has turned a pool while the stretch near bus station on Bageppalli Road has not seen asphaltation for years.
Come rain or shine, the passengers and pedestrians have no respite from the harrowing experience of travel, and the splash of mud and dust. The traffic police at the Shidlaghatta Circle find it difficult to prevent accidents on the roads.
“We feel ashamed to call it a district centre, as it has no basic infrastructure befitting an administrative centre. Years have passed since the roads near old bus stand, Channaiah Park and surrounding areas were asphalted,” said M Krishnamurthy, a retired government employee.
Due to substandard work, asphalting begins to flake off within a few days after the work, he told Deccan Herald.
Besides, buses nudging for space between autorickshaws and private vehicles in the narrow roads, stop right next to the big craters, making it difficult for the passengers to get on to the road. In the absence of footpaths, the pedestrians would have no other option but to risk their lives and walk on the busy roads.
“The elected representatives and officials of the district administration, town municipality and other important departments commute through these roads. Even after experiencing the difficulties on travelling here why don’t they bother to repair the roa ds? Why doesn’t bumpy rides alert them to the plight of the roads?” said owner of a hotel near Shidlaghatta Circle.
