'Seismic experiment only after convincing locals'
Blast not to affect water table, buildings
The representatives of National Geographical Research Institute (NGRI) of Hyderabad who are in Channarayapatna to take up various activities related to seismic activity met tahsildar B N Varaprasad and explained to him in detail about the project.
In view of the anxious locals picketing the officials who arrived there on Sunday, they met the tahsildar and assured to provide complete information on their research activities take them into confidence before involving in the experiments.
They explained that the blast will not have any impact on the water table and buildings.
They brought to the notice of the tahsildar that the experiments have been performed since the past 40 years after drilling borewells at several places in the country and there is no such incident that it had affected the normal lives of the public.
Tahsildar B N Varaprasad Reddy said they had to drill borwells after taking the locals into confidence and avoided all the confusion. The borewells dug at Honnashettihalli, Pothanahalli, Kumbenahalli villages have helped to know the available natural resources in the region.
There will bo no impact on the water resources and the officials have accepted to close the pits after the experiment, he said. The next course of action will be only after the authorities concerned explain about the process of experiment to the villagers and create awareness on them. He also brought to the notice of the officials that blasting is banned around 5 kms surrounding the Shravanabelagola, which is a historical centre.
