Birthday gift for Bipasha
Glamourous diva
Bipasha Basu is no novice when it comes to grabbing eyeballs. Whether it was her diva-esque debut in Ajnabee or her fiery item-number Beedi Jalaile, she’s always managed to steal more than her fair share of limelight.
In her latest movie, ‘Players’, she’s done it again — this time, by adding another bikini-scene to her repertoire.
No one can forget the striped two-piece that Bipasha donned for Dhoom 2, but it remains to be seen whether she can recreate the magic in the Abbas-Mustan thriller.
Metrolife caught up with the actress to find out more. Filming for ‘Players’, claims Bipasha, was anything but easy. The shooting took the actors across the globe, from Russia to New Zealand, and the actress freely admits that it was rather trying at times.
“When we went to Russia, it was really cold, and the shooting conditions were extremely difficult. At times they’d put on the storm fan to make the scene look more stylish, and it really didn’t feel good. Besides, we were hungry all the time!” she says, adding that her stylish bikini scene was another challenge.
“Wearing a bikini on celluloid is never easy,” she maintains. Her character in ‘Players’ is of a class that Bipasha is used to — a sophisticated and sexy girl, very much like Shonali Bose in Dhoom 2.
“My character’s name is Riya. She’s a part-time automobile expert and a full-time con artist. She’s Charlie’s right hand — Charlie being Abhishek’s character,” says Bipasha, adding, “she’s the kind of girl who’s very aware of her charms and at times, plays on that.”
Her character may not be completely unfamiliar, but ‘Players’ has still offered Bipasha the chance to dabble in something different.
“Last year, I did a lot of realistic cinema, and there was a part of the media that said I’d given up work. In that way, ‘Players’ is a very important film for me,” she says.
That isn’t the only reason that ‘Players’ is special to the actress; the film happens to release on January 6, which is Bipasha’s birthday.
“It’s become my birthday gift,” she quips, adding, “I think the film is really entertaining, and I enjoyed making it. It’s USP is Abbas-Mustan, since they make fabulous films — and I get a great birthday gift!”
Bipasha may have scorched the screen with her dance moves in Beedi Jalaile, but these days, it seems that Katrina Kaif has taken over as the queen of item-numbers in tinsel town. Ask Bipasha whether Katrina’s Sheila Ki Jawani and more recent Chikni Chameli bother her, and she denies it. “Every year, something new comes about. That’s the way this business moves, and all of us are happy and excited about it,” she concludes.
