‘Vidya has proved herself as an actress’

Nina C George

Actress Priyamani, who is struggling to find time between her innumerable movie commitments in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film industries, can’t stop raving about her second cousin Vidya Balan’s performance in ‘The Dirty Picture’.

bold Priyamani“It’s a bold step and she has really carried off the character very well. It takes a lot of gumption to play the role of a sex symbol with ease and finesse. She has proved herself as an actress,” says Priyamani.

She further observes that nobody else could have done the role better than Vidya. “She put on a lot of weight for the character and that is visible in the film,” Priyamani tells Metrolife.

Vidya and Priyamani hardly meet each other but Priyamani is happy that the actress in Vidya is gaining more recognition. “She really makes an effort to explore more characters and go beyond the predictable. Vidya is capable of so much more,” she avers.

After a quick vacation in Australia with her family, the actress is back in the City and has resumed work. The movie that Priyamani is looking forward to is Kshethram, in which she plays a character that has three shades. “It’s a powerful role where the character struggles between the past and the present. I can’t reveal too much about the film but here, the character tries to draw a connection with the past. It has its fair share of glamour too,” she says and adds, “it’s also a play of emotions where I need to switch emotions really fast. In the first part, I play a traditional girl and in the second half, I need to do a fight scene with sticks. I have enjoyed working on all the characters,” says Priyamani.

She has enough projects in hand but what gets her to sign a movie? “Definitely, the strength of the character and the co-stars are an equally important aspect of the film. It’s not like I have fixed choices of who I want to act with. But who wouldn’t want to act with the best in any industry and I am no different,” she says.
