No plans to hike DTC bus fares: govt
The Delhi government on Wednesday clarified that it had no plans to increase passenger fares in buses run by Delhi Transport Corporation.
Responding to a question whether the city government was considering an increase in the fares owing to hike in fuel rates, Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told reporters here that there was no such plan. “The decision has to be taken by the Cabinet. But there is no proposal to increase fares and nothing is being discussed in this regard,” said Lovely.
Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) chairman on Tuesday told Deccan Herald that in order to reduce the losses, the corporation was pushing for fare hikes and a proposal was sent to the government for revising the fares. The corporation has also advised the government to create new fare slabs in addition to the existing slabs for the air-Conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses. Last time DTC fares were revised on November 3, 2009.
If the government accepts the proposal of the corporation, two slabs of Rs 20 and Rs 25 will be added for the non-AC buses. There will also be six fare slabs for AC buses against the four currently, with the maximum fare being Rs.35 against the existing Rs 25.
