Dengue cases rampant in winters
Forty-five dengue cases were reported last month in the Capital despite low temperatures. This prompted MCD officials to ask residents in the city to continue with their vigil on mosquito breeding on their premises.
Last year a total of 1,130 dengue cases were reported. As per the figures given by the Health Ministry, 45 dengue fever cases were reported from different hospitals last month alone when temperatures dipped as low as two degrees Celsius.
"The pattern of occurrence of dengue fever is changing. It is also being reported in winters. Our domestic breeding controllers have done enough work to check for mosquito breeding in the city. Last week itself one case of dengue fever was reported from a hospital thus taking the total number of dengue cases reported last year to 1,130," said a senior official of Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
"People should take care to check for mosquito breeding on their premises. Countries that did not report dengue cases in the previous year, have reported them last year," he added.
Last year, the first case of dengue fever was reported in the month of March, much before the commencement of the dengue fever season which was the monsoon season. "It is because we had started our surveillance work quite early. A record breaking 6,000 dengue cases were reported in the year 2010," he claimed.
