New year heralds fresh ‘yuvadhwani’
‘Vaggeya Vahini’ was the title of the two-day music festival. The young and energetic musicians of ‘Yuvadhwani’ flocked together to welcome 2012 in a novel way.
Instead of partying in a club or a resort, they not only decided to bring all the musicians together, but also to utilise this opportunity to pay rich tributes to the great composers of Karnatak classical music.
The result was this classical extravaganza. Senior musicians and connoisseurs came forward with financial support to this unique effort by the youngsters. These young men wanted to bring a festival look by joining hands with almost all the musicians of Mysore.
The two days ‘Vaggeya Vahini’ was chalked out. There would be a 9 am to 9 pm concerts on both the days. The composer and the compositions would be highlighted instead of the creative aspect or the Manodharma of the performer.
The first slot of the opening day was dedicated to the compositions of predecessors of the Trinities and the trinities . The second slot was dedicated to the post trinities .
The second day highlighted the compositions of Shiva Sharanas and Haridasas. Post lunch was exclusively for Mysore Vaggeyakaras.
Nearly thirty two musicians were given slots of 45 minutes each and there were vocalists and instrumentalists as well. A band of accompanists were ready to accompany the main artistes. The boys were keen to provide lunch and tea as well to all.
There were two stages readied to avoid any waste of time. It was amazing to see their punctuality. R N Srilatha opened the session by singing the kruthis of Oothukadu Venkatasubbayya. It was followed by Vamshidhar and Mysore N Karthik (Shyama Shastri), R K Raghavan (Tyagaraja), R K Padmanabha and Ambaprasad (Dixitar), K T Udaykiran ( Predecessors of Trinities), G Usha (Patnam Subramnya Ayyar), Geetha Y Putti (swathi Tirunal), N Srinath ( Subbaraya Shastri), Neeraja Achyutha Rao (Matru Bhutayya,Maha Vaidyanatha Ayya, Walajapet Venkataramana Bhagavatar), Padma Murthy (Veena Kuppayyar, Aanayya, Govindaswamayya,Puliyur Doreswami), Koviladi R Kala ( Ramnad Srinivasa Ayangar), M R Sudha(Papanasam Shivan),Manasanayana(Kanakadasa) B Sriram Bhat(Vadiraja) , G S Kamala and G S Rajalakshmi (Bhadrachala Ramadas), M K Saraswathi(Purandaradasa), Sukanya Prabhakar (Mahila Haridasas), Naveen (Basavanna) Shailaja Sriram Bhat (Sripadaraja), M A Jyothi (Yoganarasimham), Padmavathi Narasimhan (Chowdayya),S V Sahana(Jayachamaraja Wadeyar), H S Mahalakshmi and H S Yadugiri (Sadashiva Rao), Rajalakshmi Sridhar(B K Padmanabha Rao), Dr S Vijayaraghavan (Vasudevacharya), K P Upadhyaya (Muthayya Bhagavathar) and A S Padma (Veene Sheshanna).
It was heartening to see the musicians exhibiting unity and listening to each others performance.
This non-stop 9 to 9 music festival also provided an opportunity for many unsung composers.
The young organisers of Yuvadhwani really deserve an applaud.
