Man held for abducting girl

Bangalore, Jan 8, DHNS:

The attempt of a garment factory worker to elope with a minor girl failed as the alert public caught and thrashed him, before handing him over to the Kamakshipalya police on Saturday night.

Police said Shekhar ,20, abducted the 13-year-old daughter of his colleague, locked her up at an abandoned factory and molested her.

However, police said Shekhar did not molest the girl, but kept her forcibly inside four walls. The girl was subjected to medical examination and the report said the girl was not molested. The police booked him under Section 365 (kidnapping and wrongful confinement) and arrested him.

Background

Shekhar hails from Jharkhand, while his colleague Indumathi and her husband Manoj hail from Bihar. The couple came to Bangalore 10 years ago and settled here.

Indumathi works at a garment factory in Kamakshipalya, while Manoj at a private firm in Yelahanka. They have two children, daughter Rakshita (name changed) and a son aged 10. Rakshita is studying in class VIII at New Baldwin High School at Anjananagar, police said.

Shekhar was known to the couple before they came to Bangalore. He came to the City five years ago to eke out a living. The couple provided him shelter and helped him get a job at the factory where Indumathi worked. They took care of his food and other requirements. Shekhar stayed in their house most of the time, but had a separate place to sleep during the night.

In the past few months, Shekhar developed fascination towards Rakshita, who reportedly reciprocated his moves.

On Saturday, Shekhar waited for her at the school. When she came to the school around 8 am, he asked her to come with him. They visited various places, before he took her to an abandoned factory, which is surrounded by around 200 houses, around 2 pm.

He told her that he would come back soon, locked the door from outside and went out, police said.

Indumathi grew suspicious as Rakshita did not return. She called up Manoj, relatives and friends and told them about this. Manoj rushed to his house and asked Shekhar whether he knew where Rakshita was. Shekhar replied in the negative.

He became tense after he realised the situation was getting out of hand. Shekhar told Manoj that he had taken her out and she was at the factory. They all went to the factory and found Rakshita waiting for Shekhar. They beat him up and took him to the police station.

Shekhar told the police that he loved her deeply. He wanted to marry her and hence hatched a plan to elope with her. Rakshita reportedly told the police she was in love with him. She claimed she was unaware about his plans to elope with her.

Rakshita did not go to school on Friday claiming she was not well. It is not known whether she acted as per Shekhar’s directions, police added.
