Workshop to train doctors about kidney troubles
Diseases related to kidney are common among children. Nearly 30 per cent of the total children who come to the paediatric department of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment suffer from kidney problems.
Thus, there is a need to improve care in this field of super-specialisation, said Dr Arvind Bagga, Department of Paediatrics, AIIMS.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the fifth annual training course in Paediatric Nephrology at AIIMS. The aim of the workshop was to train specialists from India and make them aware of the latest developments in the field of healthcare of children suffering from renal disorders. “AIIMS was built with the mandate to promote education, research and clinical care. These aspects need to be promoted. AIIMS as a premier institute should deliver proper scientific education in the country,” said Dr Bagga.
Specialists from Singapore, Spain and the United Kingdom participated in the workshop and shared knowledge about technological development in their countries.
“Only after post-graduation doctors come to know about the complications of kidney diseases in children. Every part of the country does not have state-of-the-art technology to support proper training. Thus, such training module helps doctors in far-off places to diagnose correctly and refer patients to proper places,” said Dr Ashima Gulati, organising secretary of the workshop
