After Korea disappointment, Saina eyes Malaysia Open title

New Delhi, Jan 9 (PTI)

After a quarterfinal finish at Korea last week, India's ace shuttler Saina Nehwal will now set her sights on the Malaysia Super Series, which begins with the qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

Fourth seed Saina will clash with Juan Gu of Singapore on Wednesday in the women's singles competition and is expected to reach at least the quarterfinal stage.

On way to the quarterfinals, the Indian is likely to face resistance from Chinese Taipei's Shao Chieh Cheng and fifth seed Tine Baun or Xin Liu of China.

In the men's singles competition, world championship quarterfinalist Ajay Jayaram will take on seventh seed Simon Santoso of Indonesia in the opening round.

While in the men's singles qualifiers tomorrow, Anand Pawar will meet Malaysian Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif and RMV Gurusaidutt will fight it out with another local player Daren Liew.

PV Sindhu will be up against Lydia Li Ya Cheah of Malaysia in the women's singles qualifiers.

In the women's doubles competition, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa will face seventh seed Christinna Pedersen and Kamilla Rytter Juhl.

Jwala will also pair up with V Diju to take on Sigapore's Chayut Triyachart and Lei Yao in the mixed doubles event at the National Sports Complex.
