Teachers stage stir against assault on head master

Somwarpet, Jan 9, DHNS:

Somwarpet Taluk Primary School Teachers’ Association staged a protest meet at Channabasappa Hall on Monday demanding the authorities to take proper action against the culprits who attacked a head master in Shanthalli.

Teachers submit a memorandum to MLA MP Appachu Ranjan after the protest meet in Somwarpet on Monday. The teachers who held the protest meet, discussed various issues in general and the issue of harassment of teachers in particular.

The teachers expressed their fear over the increased number of cases of harassment of teachers. The teachers are harassed physically and psychologically. The head teachers have been given the responsibility of looking after the construction work of the school buildings built under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The head masters are forced to work under the pressure from the elected representatives and SDMCs. The head teachers are made responsible in case of loopholes in the construction work. The Department officers simply insult the teachers in front of general public for no mistake of theirs, opined the teachers.

The teachers also brought an issue to the notice of the meeting. Some of the teachers alleged that the SDMC President from the Government Urdu Primary School, Kushalnagar collected money from the general public and the donors without bringing it to the notice of the teachers and misappropriated the amount.

They submitted a memorandum to the government through MLA M P Appachu Ranjan demanding the government to provide service security to the teachers and to limit teachers’ work to academics only and not to drag them to any other work.

District Primary Teachers’ Association President S A Yogesh lead the protest meet.
