B’lore-Mandya track doubling by December
Work on doubling the railway line between Bangalore and Mandya would be completed by December 2012, while the entire project upto Mysore would be over by end of 2013, K H Muniyappa, Union Minister of State for Railways, said on Tuesday.
As many as 288 acres were initially required for the Rs-530 crore project and at present, the State government is yet to hand over 88 acres between Mandya and Mysore, the minister told a press conference. The project would be over once the problems with land acquisition at three places - including Tipu’s armoury at Srirangapatna - were sorted out.
Farmers’ opposition
The State government could not be blamed for the delay in land acquisition, as it could be facing opposition from farmers, Muniyappa said.
Work on construction of bridges, laying of tracks and electrification were in progress on the Bangalore-Mandya stretch and it would be open for traffic by the year-end, he said.
