University of Mysore: There have been over 5700 hits since its launch 3 months ago
The Career Information Service Portal hosted on the website of the University of Mysore is gaining popularity among the student community as it has recorded more than 5,700 hits since its launch less than three months back.
The website http://www.uni-mysore.ac.in/Career/index.html can be accessed through the internet by any person across the world. The website has been divided into five categories providing details about career information, competitive exams, virtual library, career search and information on How do I?
Speaking to Deccan Herald, University of Mysore librarian Ramsesh said the career information section gives career advise, educational loans available to students, options for studying abroad, educational institutes in India, distance educational institutes in India and a students’ corner.
The section also has external links, which provide advise to students on how to prepare a resume. Another section on competitive exams, gives aspirants links to websites of Union Public Service Commission, Karnataka Public Service Commission, Short Service Commission, defence competitive exams, UGC, railway and LIC competitive exams.
The virtual library gives a complete list of prominent newspapers in and outside the country. It gives access to free libraries, featured magazines, ebooks and articles.
The career search gives details on employment opportunities put out in the Karnataka Gazette, employment news and job related websites.
Even basic information such as how to get a birth certificate, death certificate and other details are also put up on the website.
Library advisor to the University of Mysore, I R N Goudar said the purpose of the website is to put all links in one place. He said the university is planning to upgrade the website to provide better features to its students. Citing an example he said it has been observed that in ‘How do I?’ section, all the links in the ‘Obtain’ section point to a government website. In future, direct links would be given to each part of the certificate section, ensuring that it would help students in retrieving information at a faster rate.
