Lover kills girl, injures her sister
A 19-year-old girl was murdered and her sister seriously injured by the former’s jilted lover in Vasant Kunj of south Delhi on Thursday, police said.
Anita Prashad was on her way to work, along with her sister Kavita, 18, when Rajesh, 26, attacked them at the deserted Kusumpur Pahari area in Vasant Kunj.
“We received a call around 11 am on Thursday informing two girls were lying unconscious at Kusumpur Pahari. When we reached the spot, we found a girl dead, while another girl was found seriously injured,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Chhaya Sharma, said.
Both sisters were rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Trauma Center, where Anita was declared brought dead and Kavita’s condition was stated to be critical.
Police later arrested Rajesh, a security guard, on the basis of a statement by the victims’ parents Mata Singh and Shrimati. During interrogation, Rajesh confessed his crime and said he was having an affair with Anita for the last five years. He attacked her because she refused to marry him.
Police said Anita had started avoiding Rajesh. “He tried to persuade Anita, but she bluntly refused to entertain him. He even threatened Anita, but she continued to ignore him,” Sharma said. He reached her home on Thursday morning with a knife and a cricket stump, and followed the girls from there. When they reached a lonely spot, he repeatedly hit Kavita on her head and slit Anita’s throat.
