I choose films suiting my taste, not size of role: Shah

Patna, Jan 13 (PTI)

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah, whose re-invented avatar in the recent 'Dirty Picture' has won accolades, says that he chooses films that suit his taste and not depending on the size of his role.

"I only choose those films which suit my taste... it does not bother me whether my role is big or small," he told said.

The 61-year-old actor, who was here to promote his latest Hindi movie 'Chalis Chaurasi' along with other members of the cast Atul Kulkarni, Ravi Kishan and director Hriday Shetty, said that he thoroughly enjoyed working with the younger actors.

"I felt a renewed vigour and youthfulness acting with new and younger actors in this film," Shah said, lauding the younger generation of actors for their dedication and commitment to work which has led to the success of a number of films recently.

Shah said he hopes that the new bunch of actors with their realistic views will be the catalyst for thematic films popularly known as art films.

The younger actors' sense of reality is being reflected in the films being produced in Bollywood, Shah said, adding it was not possible any more to produce films like 'Aakrosh' and 'Bazaar' by sitting in the studios in Mumbai.

These films were close to reality in portraying society with both serious issues and entertainment, he added.

On the offer made to him to act in the Pakistani movie 'Khuda Ke Liye', he said that he was not interested to act in that film as he was not fluent in Punjabi.

Talking about 'The Dirty Picture', Shah said that he enjoyed working in the film which was out and out entertainment and refuted claims that the film, with Vidya Balan as the lead actress, promoted obscenity.

"The Dirty Picture can not be described as an obscene or adult film," he said.
