Steady stream of visitors on day one

Mysore, Jan 14, DHNS:

A steady stream of visitors brought Kalamandira alive during the inauguration of Bahuroopi here on Saturday.

With a majority of stalls in place, people were seen heading to get a glimpse of the innumerable books and handicrafts displayed at the venue.

The beehive of activity were the stalls with dresses for women. Also handicrafts and fashion accessories drew a huge crowd. Book lovers have a wide range to select from as more than five stalls including one by Prasaranga of the University of Mysore.

No mobile interruption
Theatre buffs can heave a sigh of relief and enjoy plays at Bhoomigeetha as mobile jammers have been set-up inside its premises. Despite repeated requests from anchors urging people to switch off their phones, plays were often interrupted by the odd ringing tunes of mobile phones.

For taste buds While theatre buffs can enjoy the huge array of plays lined-up as part of Bahuroopi this year, foodies can gorge on a variety of dishes at the stalls put-up in the Kalamandira premises.

Even as Akki rotti and jolada rotti provides a taste of the north Karnataka cuisine, two sugarcane vendors in the corner provide a perfect drink. Also lined-up are various savouries such as Bangarpet Chats, which prove to be a perfect evening snack.

The Ranga Paaka opened in the premises provides people with a variety of options such as dosas, rice items including kara bhath, kesari bhath, tomato bhath, bisi bele bhath, puliyogare and pulav. North Indian mini meals, sweet dishes such as jamoons and jelebis are also on offer.

Collection of photographs
A collection of photographs of plays based on the works of Jnanpith awardees by Rajashekar Kadamba dotted the entrance to Kalamandira. The innumerable photographs was an eye-catcher as visitors caught a glimpse of various plays staged across the state.

Good response
The film ‘Mouni’, starring Dattatreya and Ananthnag, was the inaugural movie screened at the film festival. The movie received a good response at Bahuroopi. Film director Lingadevaru said the status of Kannada film industry wasn’t good. He said when people are asked why they watch films, they say ‘to have a good sleep’. In such a situation, making art movies was a challenge.

Rangayana updates
If you need information about the plays being staged at Rangayana, you can send an SMS to 09219592195 with the message JOIN RANGAYANA. Regular updates would be sent to your mobile with details about plays being staged at the venue.
