Noble minds enthuse students on computers
Inspiring youth
Even though the state government believes that several schools should be shut down, a group of youngsters feel exactly the opposite.
Instead of berating the quality of education in government schools, they have joined hands to educate students about computers.
Also, the group of students from Amrithanandamayi College and Lakshmi Hayagreeva College have taken upon themselves the task of providing information on internet and software applications such as Word and Paint.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Lokesh Mahajan, a student of Amrithanandamayi College said they have already visited five schools and were getting calls from other institutions to teach their students.
Explaining about the efforts of the group, Lokesh said, “Earlier, we hadn’t kept any name for our group and we used to divide ourselves into three groups. The first group would focus on basics of computers. The aim was to teach students everything from starting a computer to shutting it down. The second group focuses on teaching applications such as Word and Paint.
The third group shows children the advantages of using internet and how to use it to our benefit.”
Lokesh said they had interacted with children at Ashoka High School, Ashokapuram, Government Higher Primary School at Nanjangud, T S Subbanna Government School at Chamundi Hill and Government Boys High School at Vidyaranyapuram.
As the group continues its activities, Lokesh said they were getting phone calls from other schools as well. He said a government school near Mallahalli in Nanjangud and another at Udbur near H D Kote had asked them to train their children about the basics of computers.
Learning experience
Lakshmi, a member of the group and a student of Lakshmi Hayagreeva College, said she joined Yuvachethana recently and it had proved to be a wonderful learning experience for her. She said, “We spent time with children, helping them with arts and crafts and encouraged them to speak English.”
The young team comprises Darshan, Divya, Anaga, Ankitha, Akarsh, Maria, Suraj and Prajwal of Amrithanandamayi College and Varsha of Lakshmi Hayagreeva College.
