Hues come alive

Evolve–an annual show being held in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and dhoomilal.com is back this year with a mix of interesting artists from all over the country.
The exhibition is an effort to provide a platform for deserving young artists to showcase their work along with other leading artists. With over 25 artists participating, the show that begins on January 21 and concludes on February 2, will be held at the Mercedes-Benz showroom on Golf Course Road in Gurgaon and continue at Shridharani Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam.
Various artists like Akbar Padamsee,Ganesh Pyne, Krishen Khanna, Laxma Goud, T Vaikuntam, Jogen Chowdhury, K G Subramanyan, Rini Dhumal, Manu Parekh, M F Hussain, Jyoti Bhatt, Suhas Roy, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Jai Zharotia and Neeraj Goswami, to name a few will showcase their work.
Says Priyank Jain, director, dhoomimal.com: “We take great pride in this association with Mercedes-Benz which has come to be an annual affair. Mercedes has a long history of art promotion all over the world and have supported artists likes Andy Warhol, the famous artist who led the pop movement in the US in the 70s. Many Mercedes-Benz showrooms around the world resemble art galleries with top artists being promoted through their venues.”
The highlight of the event will be works by Neeraj Goswami and Rini Dhumal, other than Lalu Prasad Shaw, Thota Vaikuntam and Sanjay Bhattacharya’s exhibits. Says art critic Keshav Malik: “In this second edition of Evolve, we have seasoned artists like Akbar Padamsee, Jogen Chowdhury, M F Husain and K G Subramanyan, other than works of Laxma Goud and Seema Kohli who will be expressing a grand line of their experience and creative expertise.”
Krishen Khanna, at one time completely recreated his art and made his debut in the field of abstraction of reds, blues and greys like the American painter Mark Rothko. He also experimented with photography but has since returned to his original style especially through his work ‘Death of Che Guevera’ and later with other work on ‘Rumi’ followed by several other portraits.
The works of Laxman Aelay reflect the nuances of life and the universe. Laxman says, “Life’s experience in myriad forms, through my visual medium allow me to communicate or to express myself. To speak, so to say, or comment on social, political, economic or cultural situations, sensitive portrayal of ethnicity, coloured with my regional influence.”
