HC takes serious cognisance of boy's death under school bus
The Bombay High Court bench here has taken suo moto cognizance of an incident involving the accidental death of a 9-year-old city boy, who came under the rear wheel of his school bus.
Justice P B Majmudar and Justice Ashok Bhangale took cognisance of the incident yesterday following newspaper reports and proposed to issue notice to all the authorities cited as respondents to show cause.
Appointing Advocate Firdos Mirza amicus curiae in the case, the Court directed him to prepare a proper writ petition from the material in the news-reports and file it before it, by January 25 next.
The proposed respondents are : Principal Secretary, Maharashtra Department of School Education, Addl Chief Secretary for Home, Principal Secretary, Transport, all Education Officers in the State and State Commissioner, Road Transport.
Virath Zade came under the rear wheel of his school bus on January 9 in Hudkeshwar area, when he went under the vehicle to get back his tiffin-box, which had fallen down.
The boy lost his life because at that very moment when he went under the bus to get back his tiffin-box, the driver suddenly started the bus and the child was crushed under its rear wheel in the absence of a conductor.
His elder sister Vedanti, who studied in the same Central India Public School, said that a complaint was made to the management two months ago regarding the school bus not having a conductor.
The child's father Sanjay is a teacher in a junior College and runs while her mother runs a 3-D Animation Centre.
The deceased had celebrated his birthday about eight days prior to the accident. AGP Deepak Thakre represented the State.
