‘I don’t want to just throw it all away’

Nina C George, Jan 19,2012, DHNS:

Instant connect

She literally shook her booty in Johny Mera Naam Preethi Mera Kaam not too long ago and had her fans swaying with her.

Now Ramya is showcasing her acting prowess as a government school teacher in Sidlingu and those who have seen the film can’t stop raving about her power-packed performance.

Ramya is excited with the reviews of the film. “I don’t like doing the same roles, it gets quite boring and is unsatisfying for me as an actor. My character in Sidlingu is such that a lot of people can relate to it,” Ramya tells Metrolife.

Sidlingu may not have the masala trappings of a commercial film as it traces
a young man’s journey from a village to an urban setting, his obsession with cars and his dreams in the City.

And Ramya, who plays Mangala, is firm about her beliefs. “My character is very subtle. It’s a very controlled acting. I had to work a lot on my facial expression and body language.

Normally, I am asked to emote gestures that are very lively, spunky and upbeat but here I was expected to be very demure, independent yet bold,” explains Ramya. Sidlingu has put Ramya on the top again, her other film ‘Lucky’ is ready for release and she is currently shooting for Katari Veera.

In ‘Lucky’, Ramya plays a TV anchor whose parents are separated when she was very young. Having gone through a rough patch as a child, she grows up as someone who doesn’t believe in human relationships, love and commitment but adores her dog and thinks a dog is more loyal than a human being. “I’ve been living out of my suitcase for the last eight months and I must say that I loved every moment of shooting for the film and it will be a Valentine gift for people this year.

There’s a dog’s song and I am sure there’ll be a lot of people who would want to own a pet after watching the song,” observes Ramya.

By acting in Katari Veera, Ramya has fulfilled another one of her dreams — that of playing a mythological character. Ramya points out that she was told by a lot of people that it isn’t easy to play such a character but she took that as a challenge. “I am up by four in the morning, complete with make-up and already rehearsing my dialogues that are full of Sanskrit words. I have never ever woken up this early but I really want to give this character my best,” she avers.

Apart from movies, Ramya makes sure she spends whatever spare time she has with her fiance Raphael. “I am so much into my work and Raphael too travels a lot on work, and we hardly get to see each other. But we will soon watch Sidlingu together,” she quips.

About marriage, Ramya says, “Marriage will happen at its pace. I want to be remembered for my work and I don’t want to just throw it all away.”
