All stops pulled out for Modi’s fast today
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s Sadbhavana fast in Godhra on Friday promises to be no ordinary affair going by the hectic preparations by various government agencies.
From collector to police head, party volunteer to MLA, everyone in Godhra is extra busy for the event. The fast has drawn attention because of the venue - Godhra was the trigger for the infamous train carnage and subsequent communal riots a decade ago and Muslims revere Friday as the holiest day of the week when afternoon prayers play a significant role.
Security agencies are already on their toes as huge congregations are expected at mosques for afternoon prayers. Modi will fast at the SRP ground close to the district superintendent’s office and also to the Polan Bazar, a Muslim-dominated area.
Talking to Deccan Herald, Panchmahals district Superintendent of Police Sachin Badshah said, “We need to regulate traffic, VIP movement and provide security cover for the programme.”
The SRP ground has a helipad and the chief minister will land right there, said a BJP party worker.
