Green power for Mayur Vihar residents

New Delhi, Jan 20, 2012, DHNS:

Will reduce consumption of power during peak hours

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday launched the first Renewal Energy Assisted Pump System in a function organised at Mayur Vihar in east Delhi.

The first REAP technology in the Capital has been installed in a plot owned by the All India Panchayat Parishad (AIPS) at Mayur Vihar. Dikshit said that the REAP technology is relevant as it will reduce consumption of power during peak hours in morning when most of the customers switch on their pumps for getting water and storage.

“The technology will also prove to be useful in agriculture, hospitals, schools, hotels and especially in group housing societies.

Further, it will also reduce the electricity losses. The generation of solar energy will help users in urban areas and farmers in rural areas,” said Dikshit adding that REAP has a capacity to draw 30,000 litre water per hours. In the coming years, generation of power with thermal and gas may become difficult due to depletion of resources. Highlighting the merits of technology, she said, “It can help Delhi become a carbon neutral city.”

She added that this was a low maintenance and zero operating cost solution, and the investment will be recovered in a short time. While responding to a demand for amending guidelines of utilisation of MPLAD and MLALAD funds for REAP system, she expressed hope that the Union Ministry of programme implementation will consider it.

* REAP system: The REAP system is an easy way to install submersible pump connected to a water tank with an especially designed motor power by a solar panel.
* More power: It is a green power solution capable of meeting water storage and pumping needs of users in both rural and urban India. This technology has been developed by BSES Yamuna Power Ltd. (BYPL) in collaboration with IIT Delhi and is expected to go a long way in reducing global warming and other green house effects.
* Go green: It will reduce dependence on the fossil fuel generated electricity supply.
