Maya slams UPA for faulty economic policies
BSP supremo and UP Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday slammed the UPA for its “faulty” economic policies saying that even Central schemes have done little to help the poor in the country. She said poverty and unemployment remained much the same since the government worked for the benefit of the capitalistic few.
Sounding the election bugle by addressing her first rally in poll-bound Punjab in Kharar on Saturday, Mayawati said poverty and unemployment have forced many to adopt Naxal ideology. Mayawati said even the Food security bill will not benefit the poor.
Blaming the Centre, she said the government was stopping reservation for the beneficiaries. Mayawati was in Punjab to support the BSP candidates contesting 111 of total 117 assembly seats. She addressed two parties in Punjab on Saturday. Projecting her party’s image as “clean”, Mayawati said her party had ensured that tickets will be given to candidates with a clean image. The BSP chief, highlighting the achievements of her government in UP, urged people in Punjab to elect the BSP candidates for better governance and social equality.
Hitting an emotional chord, Mayawati said that the BSP founder Kanshi Ram – who hailed from Punjab – dreamt of forming the government in the state. “His dream was not fulfilled in Punjab but, BSP secured power in Uttar Pradesh. I urge you to fulfill Kanshi Ram’s dream,” she said.
The BSP leader said that the party supporters must take advantage of the dissidence in Congress and SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab. The state has the highest percentage of the Dalit population in the country (29 percent) however, votes have often turned into seats for the party.
