Intel Q4 net profit up 6% at $3.4 b
Chip-maker Intel Corporation has posted six per cent rise in profit at US$3.4 billion for fourth quarter ended December 31, 2011, even as revenue from its atom microprocessors and chipsets used in tablets and netbooks slid.
The company had posted profit of US$3.2 billion in the October-December quarter of 2010. Intel has generated a revenue of US$13.9 billion in the quarter under review as compared to US$11.5 billion in the year-ago period, translating into growth of 21 per cent.
Intel’s revenues from microprocessor and chipset were down 57 per cent year-over-year to US$167 million. For full year, the profit stood at US$12.9 billion and the company reported a record revenues of US$54 billion during the year.
Looking ahead, Intel expects revenue of US$12.8 billion, plus or minus US$500 million during the first quarter of 2012.
