Crime: 800 arrested in single night in Chennai

Chennai, Jan 22, 2012, (PTI):

 Stepping up its vigilance against miscreants in the city, around 800 people have been arrested under various sections on a single night, police said.

In a statement, they said a storming operation was conducted on Saturday night at various areas and 803 people arrested. These include 95 persons booked under provisions of Code of Criminal Procedure Act 1973, 19 previously accused, 11 non-bailable warrant issued suspects and 105 for drunk driving.

Two persons were arrested for being allegedly involved in chain snatching cases at various places, it said.

Police also seized two tanker lorries and retrieved 20,000 litres of smuggled diesel and Rs 1.53 lakh cash in Madhavaram, it added.
