Mysore, January 22 2012, DHNS:

Law chamber on the lines of SC soon; various projects announced

PWD minister C M Udasi on Sunday said the government has released Rs 660 crore towards various development works in the district.

Speaking after laying foundation stone for various development works planned by the law department here at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore, he said: “The funds released by the government will be spent on improving existing roads, besides on buildings among a slew of projects”.

Of the 35 courts functioning in the district, only 17 have own buildings.

Taking the state of affairs into cognisance, it has been decided to construct another court complex, residential quarters for judges and building for alternative dispute resolution (ADR) centre. A deadline has been set to accomplish the work on the complex within one-and-a-half-year.

He complimented the judges for disposing off cases to the tune of 1.5 crore per annum. However, he said, it takes time when quality has to be taken care of while delivering judgments.

He assured that the forthcoming budget will be bigger and people-friendly — Rs one lakh crore when compared to the previous estimate at Rs 86,000 crore.

On upgradation of national highways passing through the state, the minister said a total of 2,200 km of road will be further developed at an estimated cost of Rs 4,500 crore.
That apart, there is a requirement of Rs 10 crore for developing state highways in Mysore district.

High Court judge K L Manjunath thanked the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) for granting 5.30 acres of land at Jayanagar for the intended projects.

“A law chamber will be designed on the lines of Supreme Court. In the first phase, Rs 60 crore of the total amount will be released, followed by Rs 27 crore and Rs three crore in second and third phases respectively.

Foundation has been already laid for court rooms and quarters in taluks too,” he added.
