Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday reiterated that the State government was firm on the decision to nominate former Chief Justice of Kerala High Court S R Bannurmath as the Lokayukta.

“ I had never hinted to the Governor about any alternative name,” the chief minister said.
Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, Gowda said the State government had not constituted any panel to look for an alternative judge to the Lokayukta post.

“Bannurmath is the government’s choice. There is no question of nominating anyone else to the Lokayukta post,” he clarified.

The chief minister refuted Governor H R Bhardwaj’s recent statement about the State government changing its mind on the appointment of Bannurmath and setting up a committee to choose an alternative name.

Gowda said Bannurmath’s name was sent to the Raj Bhavan and the Governor’s response was being awaited.

No meeting

The chief minister further said that there would be no BJP legislature party meeting on January 30.
“If need be, the meeting will be convened during the legislature session. However, senior party leaders will meet on January 30 to discuss various developments in the party,” he added.
