Air Force official murder case solved, four arrested

New Delhi, Jan 24,2012, (IANS)

A gang of four highway robbers was apprehended in the capital for allegedly killing a former Indian Air Force official, police said Tuesday.

The arrested have been identified as Rakesh Kake, Deepak and Rampal, all residents of Trilokpuri in east Delhi, and Deepak Kairwal, 26, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
The victim, Surender Singh, 48, left the air force a few years ago and was working with a company Foilex Private Ltd as its general manager in Himachal Pradesh.

He was offered a lift by the accused on the intervening night of Jan 14 and 15 from Mukundpur.

On the way, the accused stabbed him on his neck thrice when he resisted their robbery attempt and dumped his body near Budhpur drain in the Swaroop Nagar area of west Delhi.
"They fled after robbing his two mobile phones, one laptop and Rs.23,000 in cash," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Meenu Choudhary.

Singh, who resided at Gurgaon's Sector-10, worked as a general manager in Phoenix Company at Kala Amb in Himachal Pradesh. He would visit his residence every weekend.

On Jan 14, Singh parked his official car in Ambala and had taken the bus for Delhi and left it near Mukundpur red light.

Deepak Khairwal, the master mind of the gang of highway robbers, was arrested along with Kake and Deepak from Ludhiana, Punjab Monday by Delhi police. Rampal was arrested by crime branch police later.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that after hiring cars from Delhi and the NCR area to use as taxis, they used to target vulnerable persons coming from other states at Karnal bypass, Dhaula Kuan, ISBT Anand Vihar and the Mehrauli-Badarpur road.
