NGOs cast doubt over M’rashtra ATS’ claim

New Delhi, January 24 2012, DHNS:

The Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad’s claim of solving the July 13 Mumbai terror blasts is not credible, according to Jamia Teachers’ Solidarity Association and Anhad, an NGO.

The Maharashtra ATS arrested Delhi police informer Naquee Ahmed, which led to the claim of solving the terror case. Naquee Ahmed was helping the Delhi police special cell in identifying two Pakistani terrorists, Waqaz and Tabrez.

The two men were the aides of Shahrukh alias Yasin Bhatkal, the main operative of Indian Mujahideen (IM). They are all at large.

“The ATS cracked the case within a day of Naquee being brought to Mumbai by Delhi police special cell. Did the ATS ever visit Delhi to question or detain him? It simply pounced upon Naquee within moments of the Special Cell abandoning him in Mumbai after completing their investigation,” said association member Manisha Sethi.

ATS chief Rakesh Maria had said on Monday that Naquee and Nadeem were arrested on January 12, whereas Naquee’s family alleged that he and Nadeem were taken away by the ATS on January 9 and formally arrested on January 10.

“Delhi police is saying that Naquee was helping them, but suddenly the ATS catches him and labels him a suspect. The probe is full of loopholes. Catch those who are responsible and not the innocent,” said Shabnam Hashmi of Anhad.

‘Want justice’

Naquee’s brother, Taquee, said he is waiting for justice. “Naquee is innocent and these are serious accusations. The special cell officials told me that they will testify in court that Naquee was helping them in nabbing terrorists. But now that he has been arrested, the police should help him. I also tried meeting the police commissioner,” said Taquee.
