Senior citizen dies after robbery
Four thieves tie 84-yr-old heart patient to chair
An 84-year-old man died after he saw a robbery happening at his house at Punjabi Bagh in west Delhi in the wee hours of Tuesday, police said.
He was a heart patient, police said.
Police said the incident happened at Rajinder Singh Allagh’s house at 27-19, East Punjabi Bagh, between 1 am and 5 am.
“We received a call about a robbery at the house at 6 am on Tuesday. When we sent a police team to the house, they found Allagh’s room ransacked,” a senior police officer said.
Allagh’s son Inderpal Singh, 47, told police that he and his wife were sleeping in an adjacent room when four robbers entered the house.
Inderpal Singh is a businessman.
“My father knocked at my room’s door on Tuesday morning. When I opened it, I found that he was breathing heavily and was gasping for breath. He was a heart patient. He was probably in shock over what he went through,” Inderpal said.
Allagh had told his family members that the robbers had tied him to a chair while they were looting the house.
“The robbers had also stuffed cloth in his mouth. However, he managed to untie himself after the criminals left the house. Then he quickly went to this son’s room to inform about the incident,” said a police officer.
Allagh’s family members tried to help him breathe properly but in vain.
His health deteriorated quickly and a medical emergency situation developed soon.
The police then took him to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
“We are investigating the incident. The exact reason behind Allagh’s death can only be known after we get the post-mortem report,” the officer said.
Police have also registered a case against unknown persons with Punjabi Bagh police station.
“We are trying to ascertain the exact amount of valuables and cash stolen from the house,” the officer added.
