Shop till you drop!

Megha Shenoy, Jan 27, 2012 :

Indulge yourself

The brand gurus are back with more discounts and the shopaholics in the City are having an overdose of shopping.

Splurge on : People tend to spend more during sales. With the end-of-season sales going on at every nook and corner in the City, even those who don’t generally shop are tempted to buy, as branded items are available at affordable prices.

Be it jewellery, clothes, accessories or even electronic items, the market is filled with a wide array of things that one is simply spoilt for choice.

Many working people and students wait for these end-of season sales so that they can get their favourite item. Says Sukanya, a working mother, “Things are getting so expensive that it is impossible to make a purchase without thinking twice. That’s why these sales help. But the trick is to get there at the beginning of the sale otherwise all good things get over fast.”

Raksha, a professional, says sales are a good time to shop. However, she adds that during the week, she hardly gets time to shop and at weekends, the large crowd scares her away. “When I manage to finally find time to shop, I rarely get my size or most of the good things are already sold out,” she adds.

Though it’s very rare to find a person who hates the sales, shoppers in the City feel that one of the biggest disadvantages of such sales is that they end up spending more. Manisha, a student, agrees, “One tends to buy more things in the belief that he or she will not get the same item at a discounted rate. Finally, it’s only when we reach the counter that we realise we have spent more. We realise that we would have spent less on fewer items had they not been on sale.”

Chaitanya, a professional, too agrees but at the same time, she feels that it is ok as one gets to buy more things in the bargain. “No doubt you feel the pinch even during sales as you tend to buy more things. But when you think about it, you won’t be able to afford so many things when there is no sale,” she adds.

As for the shopkeepers, they have absolutely nothing to complain about as their cash registers are ringing.

A store manager of a sports brand says that business actually picks up during sales. “Sales are always a good time of the year as the business is good and as a brand, we also get good visibility among customers which helps us in the long run,” he adds.
