Villagers await elusive politicians
At a time when the entire state has been buzzing with high decibel campaigning, with politicians criss-crossing the state to woo the voters, this remote and non-descriptive village stands out.
Janakinagar village in the mango-belt of Malihabad, about 40-km from here, could well be the only village, which has not been visited by any politician. It is not that the politicians do not want to go there; they’re keen in visiting the village, but the problem lies in its inaccessibility. Sad, yet true, there are no roads connecting this village.
“The village is surrounded by mango orchards from all sides…there’s no road to reach the village except through the mango orchards, and the owners of the orchards have scuttled every move to construct roads,’’ say the residents.
While the locals manage to travel through the dense mango orchards, the outsiders find it extremely difficult to reach the village. “So far, no contestant has come here to seek our votes,” the residents said in unison. No banners or posters of any party were seen in the village either.
Lack of roads have forced a large number of residents of the village to migrate to other places. “Very few families have chosen to stay back….if the situation continues, they may also shift,” says the village pradhan Ram Das.
The villagers complain that no party has evinced any interest in developing basic facilities in the village. Das said: “They know that the village is practically inaccessible, yet they have not made any attempt to construct roads.’’
Janakinagar is among those hundreds of villages in UP, which have not witnessed any development notwithstanding the tall claims made by politicians.
