CIS students take part in walkathon for charity
Nidhi Gopalan, a Grade 12 student at the Canadian International School (CIS), Yelahanka, was overjoyed when she learnt that one of her small efforts could make a great impact on the lives of the many of her less-fortunate peers.
Hence, when her school announced the annual walkathon to raise funds for charity, Nidhi was as excited as ever. “It was not only a great opportunity to work together, but was also a phenomenal experience knowing that our small effort can make such a great impact,” she said. Suha Mohamed, another Grade 12 student, was equally passionate about the walkathon conducted on Wednesday.
“I’ve been involved in the sponsorship committee for two years.”
This year’s walkathon provided a platform for all students to walk collectively and to support worthy causes. The funds raised by students of grades 1-5 will be contributed to the “Missionaries of Charity”, run by sisters of Mother Teresa. The funds raised by students of grades 6-8 will be donated to the Indira Gandhi International Academy, a residential school for 300 Sri Lankan refugee children.
The funds from grades 9-12 will go towards the Habitat for Humanity project.
