142 Tihar inmates offered jobs in campus placement drive
Tihar Prisons today set a record of sorts when 142 jail inmates were selected by various companies with three of them each offered a package of Rs 3,60,000 per annum in this year's first campus placement drive.
Introduced as part of the rehabilitation programme for prisoners after their release, the today's placements took the total count of inmates who have received job offers till now to 334. Last year, Tihar officials had conducted three campus placements for the jail inmates.
"Five companies had come over to conduct job interviews. Of the 175 eligible candidates, 142 were selected. The salary offered to different inmates in different industries and positions ranged between Rs 84,000 per annum and Rs 3,60,000 per annum," Spokesperson of Tihar Prisons, Sunil Gupta said.
The companies that participated for the campus placements are Career Graft, Future Mason, Vedanat Foundation, Frontline and Ikaya Global. "Three inmates, Sahil Gulati, Hemant Kumar and Mohammad Asif have been offered a package of Rs 3,60,000 per annum each. They were hired by consultancy firm Careercraft for different positions like marketing consultant, hardware manager among others," he said.
Frontline, a company that is into assets management and security, hired the maximum number of prisoners (60), the spokesperson said, adding that 13 women inmates who participated in the job drive also got offers.
"This clearly reflects that our inmates are talented and society is ready to accept them. In the earlier three campus placements conducted last year, 192 inmates were absorbed in different companies," he said. The campus selection drive at Tihar is considered as the brain child of former Jail Superintendent M K Dwivedi.
