Living space needs answered here
Furniture fair
It has been quite a while since our lives moved from humble need-based stuff to things that serve as an indicator of our exquisite taste, with furniture being one. Head to Chamundi Vihar before Monday and you will find luxury on sale, says Preethi Nagaraj
I t is one thing to have taste fit for kings. And, it is altogether another thing to be able to afford things that speak your status. Most of the times, we end up spending unending hours away from home, from family, earning money to afford things that we rarely use.
Consumerism at its best and its behest, too!
The ongoing Furniture Fair in the city has some rare stuff that you will find tough to source otherwise. Take for instance, the artificial flowers which look so original that you would fall in love with them, and beautiful sofas that tempt you to sink in after a hard day’s work or the rocking chair that promises to be a loyal companion for your lonely thoughts so on and so forth.
For all those who love coarse-textured-elite-signifying jute, there’s a feast on offer. Many stalls with entrepreneurs across age groups have put on sale things that you can use everyday -- both at home and office. Bags, files, accessories, mobile pouches, handicrafts and most of all, footwear that can even be custom made, are on the offing.
For the kitchen
Modular kitchens seem to be in high competition with each other here, with the consumer being the end beneficiary, rose wood and teak furniture, brass artefacts, dining and coffee tables, razaais that are almost as good as thermal wears are a must buy from here.
Massage chairs, weight loss thingies, cots and mattresses, kitchen accessories -- like juicers, peelers and stuff -- carpets and rugs, marble artefacts are the usual fare, but then temptation doesn’t escape them either. Traditional jhoolas are total show-stealers.
Just as you head towards the end, with a mixed bag of emotions -- contentment about things that you bought and disappointment about things that you couldn’t -- food stalls provide you a wholesome solace. Choose from sampling murmurs that melt in your mouth (yummy!), Rajasthani pickles, halwas, snacks to freshly made sandwiches, noodles, fried rice and dosas, you are sure to return home with a happy stomach. By the way, the exhibition is on only till January 30, Monday.
