East Bengal rally to hold Churchill

MARGAO, JAN 27, 2012, PTI:

Churchill Brothers allowed East Bengal to get off the hook and settled for a 1-1 draw in an I-League clash at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda on Friday.

Churchill Brothers had plenty of chances to grab the three points that they had been hunting for, but apart from Henri Autchouet’s seventh minute goal the hosts had nothing to show for. In the end, even that did not count for much as Tolgay Ozbey ensured East Bengal walked away with a point with the equalizer in the 53rd minute.

Bagan win

At the Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata, Mohun Bagan returned to winning ways as they beat Pailan Arrows 2-0 in their return leg fixture.

Bagan took the lead through a 65th minute Jose Barreto header, while Sheikh Jewel Raja scored an easy 77th minute goal to complete the tally.

After the 17th round, Bagan have 30 points, while winless Arrows stretched their losing streak to eight matches.
