Police chief just a call away

Mysore, January 27 2012, DHNS:

Change in guard: K L Sudheer takes charge as new commissioner

If you have any complaints or information, you can reach the new police commissioner K L Sudheer, either on his cellphone or any other possible modes of communication. The top cop believes in police-public relationship.

Addressing media after taking charge here on Friday, the commissioner said police alone cannot run the show without the cooperation of public. On the other hand, the behaviour of men too counts and actions will be taken to see that complainants get due justice within the time frame.

Saying that equal emphasis will be laid on the maintenance of law and order and checking crime, the commissioner said he is a believer in three Es- education, engineering and enforcement.

Mincing no words, he said rash and negligent driving will not be tolerated. Even the judiciary too- Supreme Court and High Court have warned against such erring riders/ drivers on roads who claim the lives of innocents. He also had a warning for anti-social elements, promising stern action against them.

Taking into cognisance that the city is also a tourist spot attracting tourists in hordes, he said people should feel the place safe and secure. In the opposite case, it will dent the image of the city. ‘Nada Habba’ Dasara is one of the prominent festivals and advance plans will be made to retain the sheen.

Sounding a call of discipline for men in the force too, the commissioner said impetus will be given to ensure their fitness and also improve capacity. Majority of the force comprises low cadres and it’s only on their feat, the top order can assure a society worth living.

The commissioner said he also believes in team work rather than going alone, by taking all- from the heads of all departments to netas, district administration to local body into confidence.

DCP (law and order) Basavaraj Malagathi handed over the charge in the absence of previous commissioner Sunil Agarwal. Agarwal who had handed over the charge to the DCP before going on a fortnight’s leave, said sources.

DCPs- P Rajendra Prasad (crime and traffic) and M N Prabha Shankar (CAR) and mounted police commandant S J Mariba Shetty and others were present.
