Jaipur cop robs robber

Last Updated 27 January 2012, 19:12 IST

In a classic case of role reversal, a policeman asked a criminal to pay a bribe.

Anti-corruption bureau DIG (Jodhpur) Sanjeev Kumar Narjari said assistant sub-inspector Shivram of Raniwada police station in Jalore had arrested Ashok, who was allegedly involved in several  cases of robbery.

“Police seized a wrist watch, a cellphone and Rs 2,280 from Ashok,” said Narjari. Later, Shivram told the criminal to pay Rs 2,000 to get his belongings back.

According to Narjari, Shivram took the seized items for his own use and went on to ask for more money from Ashok.

Then Ashok informed the anti-corruption branch of the police. A trap was laid. Ashok went to the police station with Rs 2,000 in cash and Shivram returned his belongings, minus Rs 1,780 from what Ashok originally had with him. Shivram was arrested on the spot.
