Doctor accused of cheating allowed to visit Britain

New Delhi, Jan 28, 2012, (IANS) :

A Delhi court has allowed a doctor allegedly involved in cheating of around Rs.1.5 crore to visit Britain for six weeks, observing that he would not flee from the country leaving behind his property worth Rs.10 crore.

Setting aside a magistrate's order refusing to release Raman Kumar Juneja's passport for his foreign visit, the court told him to deposit his property papers and give an undertaking that his properties could be forfeited if he did not return to India.

Additional Sessions Judge Bimla Kumari, in an order made available Saturday, said: "The revisionist (Juneja) is allowed to visit the UK for a period of six weeks."

The court's order came on an application filed by Juneja involved in a property dispute and cheating case involving Rs.1.5 crore. Juneja is facing charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.

"The revisionist has properties worth more than Rs.10 crore in India; that the value of the money involved in the present case is only Rs.1.5 crore; that it is implausible that for the sake of Rs.1.5 crore, revisionist would leave his properties worth Rs.10 crore and would disappear," the court said, allowing his plea.

"Juneja will file details of his stay (in Britain) and surrender his passport after he returns," said the court.
