Hostelers allege they were locked-up and denied food
Inmates of Pre-matric Boys Hostel at Haradanahalli near here staged a protest here on Saturday alleging that hostel authorities had thrashed them and denied food and water for complaining to grama panchayat members at the Republic Day celebrations recently.
They later staged a protest in front of the grama panchayat.
Students said warden Narasimhamurthy had failed to provide basic facilities and had misbehaved with hostelers As the warden had failed to take any action, the students had complained to the grama panchayat.
But grama panchayat president and secretary refused to heed to the issues faced by the inmates.
Later, Devalapura hostel warden Jayaramu and nine others including Rudresh, Thimmappa, Ramegowda locked around 15 students in a room and thrashed them. One student, who is said to have brain tumour, was smashed against the wall, hostel inmates said.
More than 60 inmates of hostel alleged that they had neither been given bedsheets nor blankets for the past one year. The inmates complained they were being provided sub-standard food at the hostel.
The students finally called off the protest as teachers intervened and pacified the students.
The warden was unavailable for comments, despite repeated attempts to contact him.
