Govt staff seek action on pay panel recommendations
Association demands end to wage disparity
Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association President L Bhairappa has urged the State government to implement the recommendations of the Wage Board Committee appointed by the State government to clear off the wage discrimination among the government employees.
He was speaking after inaugurating Mysore division convention of the Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association at Vokkaligara Kalyana Mantapa in the city on Saturday. The Wage Board Committee was supposed to submit its report by December 31, 2011. If not by then, it had to submit the report at least by the first week of February. We have urged the government to implement the recommendations of the Committee in the coming budget which will be placed before the Assembly on March 9. If the government fails to respond to our demands, the employees will have to unite for the fight, he said.
“We hope to see increase in the salary of Group D group to A. If the report is unscientific there is no question of accepting it. Due to the continuous fight of the Association, the 5th wage board was implemented. With the Central government implementing the 6th wage board, there has been huge difference in the wage of the Central and the State government,” he said.
Further, he informed that there are 5,53,000 government employees in the State, majority of which are school teachers. When the population of the State was four crore the number of employees was the same and even now when the population is six crore in the State, the number of employees is the same. As many as 1,26,000 posts are vacant in Karnataka. There is a need to appoint more number of government workers as it would help to reach the government schemes and programmes to the beneficiaries on time.
Stressing on the need for creating a congenial atmosphere for the government employees to work, he said that most of the developmental work is not implemented due to the intervention of the political leaders. The harassment of the teachers and the PDOs is still going on. A strong fight is required to oppose all the problems, he said.Association General Secretary Range Gowda, Treasury Chowdaiah and others were present.
