Metro to observe 'Smart Card' week

In an effort to promote the travel smart card, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will observe 'Smart Card Week' from January 30 to February 5. As a part of the initiative, the DMRC would set up special counters in over 20 busiest stations to guide travellers and tourists.

“The Delhi Metro will observe smart card week to promote and popularise extensive use of contactless smart card (CSC) for its frequent travellers and tourists alike. The theme of the week will be ‘SMART, Travel SMART, Use SMART CARD’. During this week special counters will be made operational at twenty Metro stations having the highest footfalls” a Metro spokesperson said.

Smart cards is a special type of ticket used for multiple journeys based on value available on it.
“Commuters will be encouraged to use smart card to save time, otherwise consumed by long queues to buy tickets, and avail of 10 per cent discount on every journey. Similarly, tourists coming to visit Delhi Metro will be explained the concept of tourist smart card for unlimited rides for a single day and three day period,” the spokesperson added.

The counters will be set up in 20 Metro stations including Chandni Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Karol Bagh, Pragati Maidan, Uttam Nagar East, Saket, Noida City Centre and Kashmere Gate stations, among others.

Presently, about 65 per cent of the Metro commuters are using smart card every day. About 12,000 Metro smart cards are being sold each day from the Metro stations and about 6.5 lakh tokens are sold each day.
