Cancelled trains yet to resume services
Even as the spell of dense fog has been over, no decision has been taken over the restoration of around 50 local and long-distance trains which were cancelled by the Northern Railways due to the perennial problem of fog.
Over 30 long-distance trains were cancelled in the month of December till January 31 due to safety reasons once the fog started disrupting rail traffic in eastern and northern India including the national capital. Moreover, over 20 local trains were fully or partially cancelled on December 20 due to fog initially till December 31. The deadlines were extended till January 31 later on.
“No decision has been taken over restoration of the trains as of now. There is still a day for the deadline to end. Decision will be taken soon,” senior public relations officer Y S Rajput said.
Meanwhile, the Met department has predicted shallow fog in days ahead. “While the general limit of foggy days during winter is February 15, the region is likely to witness shallow or misty weather in days to come,” a Met official said.
Some of the major long-distance trains which remain cancelled for the last two months include Jharkhand Express, Janta Express, Lichchavi Express, Ujjaini Express, Garhwal Express, Varanasi-Dehradun Express, Lucknow Chandigarh Express and Jaipur-Chandigarh Express.
