<p>Passengers from Karnataka travel with their hearts in mouth till they reach their destinations in border villages of Andhra Pradesh, as roads in border villages of the taluk have turned a death trap. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Hundreds of vehicles ply to Andhra Pradesh via Billur, Gortapalli, Marganukunte, Kottakote and Timmampalli villages. But, the roads have not seen repair for years now and are dotted with craters and potholes. It is in contrast with the well-laid roads in the neighbouring state. The roads seem to indicate the differences in treatment of the two states to border villages. While the Karnataka government has neglected the villages on all front - education, infrastructure and basic facilities, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have been exemplary in development and maintenance of the villages on the periphery. <br /><br />The Public Works Department has not bothered to repair the Gulur-Timmampalli-Billur which are filled with potholes. The other roads maintained by the Zilla Panchayat have not seen asphaltation. It takes hours to travel on these roads on the Karnataka border while it is a few minutes journey in the Andhra border. <br /><br />Lakhs of rupees granted by the government are utilised for constructing drains where they are not needed and a major chunk of the grant is misappropriated by the elected representatives and contractors, allege residents. Substandard work has gone into construction of drains which collapse within a few days after their construction, said Babu of Timmampalli.</p>
