On UP poll duty, BDA chief clears files online
The most recent IT project of the Bangalore Development Authority –– scanning of files –– has been put to good use.
With Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena being deputed for election duty in Uttar Pradesh, the BDA has made all its files pertaining to projects, payments and other functions available online and the commissioner has resorted to clearing them the e-way.
Though Meena is trying to clear as many files as possible, sources in the BDA say that files pertaining to public grievances have remained untouched. “We have about 352 files pending at the commissioner’s desk that needs to be cleared and another 700-odd files are held back at the BDA secretary’s office due to his absence. It is total anarchy,” said a source within the BDA.
This count is only for the past one week since Meena’s absence. On any given day, it is said that nearly 150 files are moved from the secretary’s office to the commissioner.
According to officials, there is none in-charge for clearing files and everything has been left untouched as a result. From clearing of sites under litigation to site allotments, sources say that all these files will have to wait till the commissioner returns from his election duty on February 14.
“We are unable to get our files cleared as there is no one to respond to us. Without the commissioner’s assent there is no way through,” said one hapless citizen, who visited the BDA office on Monday. Sources said the commissioner’s office has refused to accept any new files due to the huge backlog that needs clearance from Meena.
