Panel submits report on Education Act

New Delhi, Jan 30,2012, DHNS:

A three-member committee on the Delhi School Education Act and Rules, 1973, led by Shailja Chandra, former Delhi government chief secretary, submitted its report to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday.

“The committee has sincerely tried to understand the difficulties and suggested a set of steps to protect the interests of parents and teachers, and role of the school management. It has also suggested a new concept of conducting school inspections with the primary focus on the learning outcomes of children,” said a government official. He added that the committee had finalised its recommendations in three volumes after taking into account the views presented by a large number of persons associated with the field of school education in Delhi.

The chief minister has conveyed her gratitude to the committee for submitting recommendations to facilitate purposeful amendments in the Act and related Rules. “We will first study the report and then take all appropriate actions at the earliest,” said Dikshit when asked about the recommendations made by the committee.

The committee was constituted in April 2011 to examine all issues related to the Education Act.
