Guru Nanak Dev University to confer honorary DSC on Narayana Murthy

Amritsar, Jan 31, (PTI):

Guru Nanak Dev University here will confer honorary Doctorate of Science degree on Chairman-Emeritus, Infosys Technologies Limited, N R Narayana Murthy at its annual convocation tomorrow.

The degree is being awarded by the University in recognition of his commendable contribution in the field of technology, Dr. Inderjit Singh, Registrar, said.

He said Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of the University Shivraj Patil would preside over the convocation. He said Narayana Murthy would deliver the convocation address.

He said Vice-Chancellor Ajaib Singh Brar would read out the citation highlighting the contribution made by Narayana Murthy before the award of the honorary degree. The Registrar said Narayana Murthy rose to the status of an iconic businessman and became a synonym of IT revolution in India and a corporate manager par excellence.

He said Infosys, Murthy’s small joint project founded in 1981 with the borrowed seed money of Rs. 10,000, is today worth over six billion dollars having global footprints with 65 development centres in scores of countries.
