Jeev, Chowrasia and Kapur set for Qatar Masters

Doha, Feb 1, 2012, (PTI)

After a creditable show at last week's Abu Dhabi Championships, Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh will aim to better the performance when he tees off at Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at the Doha Golf Club here from tomorrow.

Jeev had rounds of 67 and 71 on the weekend as he finished tied 24th at the Abu Dhabi Championships.

Other Indians in the fray will be SSP Chowrasia, whose last round 68 was by far one of his better rounds in the last six months on European Tour, and Shiv Kapur -- via a sponsor's spot.

Kapur played the European Challenge Tour last week finishing in top-10 at the Kensville Challenge in Ahmedabad.

Jeev is paired with David Howell and Oscar Floren and Chowrasia will play with David Lynn and Rafael Cabrero-Bello and Kapur will play the first two days with Tano Goya and Alejandro Canizares.

Thomas Bjorn of Denmark will be back in Doha this week trying to find the same form that took him to victory in the Qatar Masters a year ago. That set him up for his most successful season to date on The European Tour in terms of wins.

The 40-year-old Dane recovered from an opening 74 at Doha Golf Club last year to storm home with subsequent rounds of 65-66-69 for a total of 14-under 274 and a four shot winning margin over Spain's Alvaro Quiros.

Bjorn later claimed the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles and the Omega European Masters in consecutive weeks to help him finish ninth in The Race to Dubai, his best finish since he ended 2003 in eighth position on the rankings.

The field in Doha is very high profile with England's Lee Westwood and Germany's Martin Kaymer in addition to Spain's Alvaro Quiros and Sweden's Robert Karlsson. Also there are South Korea's KJ Choi and Hunter Mahan of the United States.
